My Passion and MY Talents

My Passion is fighting domestic violence, my talents are personal branding and digital marketing.
The beginning of my story is rooted in the memories of my childhood. I don’t remember exactly how old I was, but I was in elementary school in Chicago. I have two sisters and a brother, and my mother had re-married.
One day, my stepfather decided it was time to discipline us and ended up slapping my sister in the face. When my mother disapproved and told him to leave, he threatened to burn down the house with us all inside. The next morning, my mother packed up her children and left, and we became a single parent household.
At the age of 19, a year after graduating high school, I married the first man who said “I love you” to me. Despite warning signs, I married him because I believed he loved me. Unfortunately, that love quickly turned abusive, with adultery, emotional abuse, and eventually physical abuse and threats on my life. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to escape and get a divorce.
Domestic violence is a pervasive issue, with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experiencing it according to reported cases. The actual numbers are likely higher, with 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men experiencing domestic violence according to Alma Davis of Alma Domestic Violence Foundation.
